Learnings from the movie "Guru" 2007

What I Learned from the Movie "Guru" (2007)

I had the privilege to watch the movie “Guru” as a part of the entrepreneurship course. It gives me immense joy that my professor suggested me and my colleagues to watch this classic masterpiece. The movie is based on a man named Gurukant Desai, played by Abhishek Bachchan, who hails from a small village to become a  business tycoon in India.

Here are my two cents and learnings from the movie:

1.     Hardships and Obstacles in life

Adversities or atrocities in life can lead to the recognition of the relevance and essence of                         entrepreneurship. Gurukant Desai hailed from a small village in Gujarat, his father believed in a             rudimentary style of living and possessed an inferior mindset towards the idea of entrepreneurship         often downgrading his son’s ambitions to start an independent business venture. Such obstacles can         trigger a positive sense of determination within an individual which elevates morale and motivation       to achieve tedious goals. A positive mindset and sheer determination are the key recipes that pave           way to the development of successful entrepreneurs that is derived from atrocities that one may face       in his/her lifetime.

2.     Identifying a Key business plan

Despite the initial setbacks endured by guru, he was able to thrive successfully through criticism and come up with a business idea of establishing a clothing business “Shakti Corporation”. He was able to identify the business plan that not only benefitted him but also contributed to the improvement of textile industry by analysing the existing lacuna’s within the market and satisfying the needs of the customers.

3.     Emergence of Greed and Illegal Practices

Once guru’s business venture reached new heights and grew in leaps and bounds, he indulged in illegal or unethical practices like smuggling of machine parts for his polyester mills with an intention to make high profitability. Greed is an emotion whose emergence within the human soul is prominently observed since decades. It is a natural instinct that drives accomplished as well as ordinary people to trespass beyond limits to achieve a desired goal in an unethical manner. Therefore it is necessary that we must be true to ourselves and self regulate our emotions in a way that unethical practices are avoided.

4.     Importance of Family Support

Guru’s wife, Sujata , stood by his side during every highs and lows in his career. Therefore It is the         need of the hour to have emotional assistance and support from the people when one is working               extremely hard to establish a business from the scratch.

        Final Thoughts

Guru is not just an ordinary film—it provides valuable lessons in the intricate field                                    entrepreneurship and development. As an MBA student, this movie taught me various challenges            and opportunities pertaining to the business world.
